To Join the Laramie Kempo Karate Club

We welcome anyone looking for traditional martial arts training.  The youth classes are for ages 6 and up while the adult classes are for ages 13 and up.  On an individual basis, higher rank youth students may be invited to join the adult class even if they don’t reach the minimum age.

The advanced youth class on Thursdays is for youth who have attained at least the rank of yellow belt.  This class is more focused and includes more traditional training, similar to the adult class.

For the kids classes, first class is free and pre-registration is not required.   Just come!  Adults starting martial arts for the first time are asked to watch one class before joining since we start adults one-on-one and watching a class can help a prospective student know if our club is what they are looking for and what to expect.

New students are welcome any time and spectators are welcome.

What to wear
To get started, wear typical workout clothing. Sweatpants are better than shorts.  Uniforms are available for sale at the dojo at the prices below.  All students wear black uniforms (gis) but white gis are acceptable for students coming from another style; no other colors are allowed.  Black belts are allowed to “split” colors with a white top and black bottoms.

Regardless of rank in a different style or different dojo (not associated with Laramie Kempo Karate Club) all new students are required to start at white belt.  Students with prior training typically progress faster but due to testing requirements varying from school to school and style to style, all students start at white belt (9th Kyu).

Testing for Rank
Rank testing where a student earns their next belt typically occurs in mid-March, mid-May, late August, and mid-December.  Testing is done before the entire class.  Before testing a student must have the permission of Shihan Amber Travsky.  There is no testing fee and those who pass their test are awarded their new belt at no charge. Test requirements are found in the Student Manual.

Youth Stripe Testing
In addition to rank testing, stripes are awarded in the youth class.  Stripe testing is done the final Monday and Wednesday of the month except during holidays.  Testing is done in small groups and not in front of the class.  Stripe testing requirements are found in the student manual.

Gi Prices (available at the dojo).
Uniforms include top, bottom and a white belt.  They are mid-weight and 100% cotton.
